Kate Stephenson joined Trauger & Tuke as a partner in 2000. Her practice focuses on commercial litigation, regulatory appeals, and employment law. From 1994 to 2000, she practiced with Tuke Yopp & Sweeney where she represented clients in employment cases, franchise disputes, antitrust and RICO litigation, and products liability cases. From 1988 to 1994, she was with Farris, Warfield & Kanaday.
Ms. Stephenson is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee, and American Bar Associations and a member of the Lawyers Association for Women, of which she is a past President. She has been a director of the Nashville Bar Association, a member of the Harry Phillips Inn of Court, the U.T. Alumni Advisory Committee, the Tennessee Bar Foundation IOLTA Grant Review Committee, and the Nashville Women's Political Caucus. She is a Fellow of the Nashville Bar Foundation. She has presented several seminars on employment law and trial practice.
Ms. Stephenson received her law degree with highest honors from the University of Tennessee in 1988, where she was a member of the National Moot Court Team (national quarter-finalist), Order of the Coif, and Valedictorian, and was named "Graduate of the Year" by the law school faculty. She holds degrees from Kenyon College (B.A., magna cum laude, philosophy 1978) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (M.A., history 1980). Before attending law school, she taught history in the upper school at Webb School of Knoxville, worked as a production assistant at WQED in Pittsburgh, and was the Director of Public Relations for Kenyon Festival Theater.
